Measuring fetal heart rates accurately and safely--without ultrasound

چکیده
An Optical FHR Detection System Our research team proposed a low-power optical technique based on the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal, which is generated when a beam of light is modulated by blood pulsations, to noninvasively estimate the FHR. The doctor or technician shines a beam of LED light (less than 68 mW) at the maternal abdomen, modulated by the blood circulation of the mother and fetus. Maximum light wave penetration is achieved at a wavelength of 890 nm. This mixed signal can be processed by an adaptive filter using digital signal processing with the maternal index finger PPG as a reference input, Figure 1.

I-49: Safely Extending Focused Ultrasound Surgery for Uterine Leiomyomas to Women Who Desire Future Pregnancies
Background: Focused ultrasound surgery (FUS) is a novel noninvasive surgery that results in localized tissue necrosis without any breech of the skin or other body orifice. MRI guidance provides anatomic visualization and real time thermal feedback. Our goal is to safely extend this therapy to women who desire future pregnancies. Materials and Methods: We have undertaken 4 multisite trials of FU...
متن کاملUltrasound-guided induced fetal death, an alternative method for induction of abortion in the bitch
This study was performed to achieve abortion in a short time and with minimum side effects in a bitch, as an alternative method for termination of unwanted pregnancy. The experimentation was performed on 10 privately owned crossbred pregnant bitches, in their late second trimester of pregnancy, having a variable number of fetuses (3 to 9). Fetal death was induced by transabdominal intracardiac ...
متن کاملLearning Curve for Ultrasound Assessment of the Fetal Heart at Nuchal Scan
Background: The aim of our study was to evaluate the characteristics of the learning curve of the first trimester (FT) fetal heart scan and to determine the required number of ultrasound examinations for training sonographers to accurately assess the normal fetal heart at 11–13+6 weeks’ gestation, by means of 2D ultrasound. Methods: We selected four trainees (resident doctors) with theoretical ...
متن کاملSequential Total Variation Denoising for the Extraction of Fetal ECG from Single-Channel Maternal Abdominal ECG
Fetal heart rate (FHR) is an important determinant of fetal health. Cardiotocography (CTG) is widely used for measuring the FHR in the clinical field. However, fetal movement and blood flow through the maternal blood vessels can critically influence Doppler ultrasound signals. Moreover, CTG is not suitable for long-term monitoring. Therefore, researchers have been developing algorithms to estim...
متن کاملWhat are Obstetric Ultrasound Scans?
The information obtained from different reflections are recomposed back into a picture on the monitor screen (a sonogram, or ultrasonogram). Movements such as fetal heart beat and malformations in the feus can be assessed and measurements can be made accurately on the images displayed on the screen. Such measurements form the cornerstone in the assessment of gestational age, size and growth in ...
